Co Zacks Blue Boon | Stallion Photos

Marshall, WI

After months of wet and wintery backdrops, spring has reluctantly given us beautiful temperatures and blossoming landscapes. Finally! While I love the bright and crisp contrast a snowy day can bring to a shoot, I am always excited when the temperatures warm up and the plants begin to bloom. It was a perfect spring day when my husband Chris and I made our way to Marshall, Wisconsin, for a session starring Co Zacks Blue Moon, a beautiful stallion with sought after bloodlines. He is a stud up for bookings, and his owner Brianna Howe was looking for some professional photos to use for marketing. I couldn’t wait to get started.

For owners looking to market their stud, there are many things to consider. While whimsical photos and stunning backdrops can be fun and make for beautiful photographs, quality stud photographs will focus entirely on the horse, with little background distractions. This means my goal was to capture the stallion’s conformation in photos that would highlight his beautiful shape, movements, and posture. I also wanted to get some eye-catching action photos that would feature Co Zacks Blue Moon in motion, as well as some suitable pictures to create a stallion ad.

While conformation and action photos can often seem to come about by being in the right place at the right time, it actually takes much more work and skill than it may seem. That is why I was so grateful to have a wonderful team behind the scenes. My husband Chris was my amazing assistant for the day, and Brianna was there every step of the way to ensure her stallion was relaxed and comfortable. Her sister, Kama, came by to help us capture some action photos, and we were all so pleased with the results. No one could deny that all eyes were on the handsome boy!

Our time in Marshall was relaxed and fun with Brianna and Kama, and we were in no rush to get the perfect picture. We took our time and made sure to take breaks when necessary, and I was constantly paying attention to the stallion to make sure he was happy and at ease. And what a gentleman he was! He was calm and graceful for the camera, even despite a number of distractions, including barking dogs and loud equipment. His gentle and graceful demeanor is sure to be passed down to his offspring, and I think you will agree that his sweet personality lit up the camera.

The sunny day ended with confidence that we had all that would be necessary to successfully market Co Zacks Blue Moon as a stud. It is a very satisfying feeling at the end of the session to be able to provide my clients with exactly what they were looking for, and I always enjoy meeting the stallions in the area and hearing their owner’s stories. The world of equestrian breeding is an exciting and ever-changing one, and it is fascinating to be on the frontlines as an equestrian photographer.

If you have a stud that you are looking to soon market, I would love to be your photographer. If you want to learn more about my process, reach out to me. I look forward to helping you and your stallion reach unprecedented success.
