In cities like Green Bay, Wisconsin, equestrian centers like Northstar Equestrian at Greenfield Farm serve a multitude of purposes. They not only provide a quality place for owners to board their horses, but they also provide a stimulating environment for owners and horses to bond, train, and grow in both performance and relationship. Recently I held a session at this gorgeous farm, and I enjoyed learning about the staff’s dedication to high-quality care and their utmost professionalism. The team there is dedicated to treating each horse as its own, while also ensuring that their customers feel involved and informed. The knowledgeable staff adapts their programs and services in an effort to meet the needs of their customers and horses, and I was thrilled to enjoy a day behind the scenes with three of their clients, Morgan, Forest, and Kelly. Also along for the experience? Their beautiful horses, of course!

As mentioned, Northstar Equestrian is located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While Green Bay is a fairly populous city, the farm is situated on 35 rolling acres speckled with manicured barns, arenas, and outbuildings. On the day of our session the sky was heavy with clouds and the ground was covered in a layer of fresh, fluffy snow. It was cold, as our winter days in Wisconsin quite often are, but we were grateful that the snow had stopped falling and we were left with the bright background only fresh snow can provide.

Our session was fast-paced and pulsing with energy, thanks to three of some of the most experienced equestrian women I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Kelly boards her three horses at Northstar, affectionally monikered Spirt, Mac, and Taxi. While Spirit and Taxi are both retired, enjoying their days in relaxed bliss at Northstar, Mac is Kelly’s show horse. Morgan does showjumping with her gorgeous boy Grant, and she doesn’t hesitate to express her pride in the AQHA gelding. Grant, she tells me, will always be a part of her family. Forest is the founder of Herd of Zebras, a lifestyle brand that encourages individuality and fosters an upbuilding community for like-minded equestrians.

Angela Marie Makeup Artistry helped me out behind the scenes with her incredible hair and makeup skills, and the ladies were aglow alongside their horses. Getting three women and their horses ready for a photoshoot required time and organization, but Angela was (as always) such an asset and went above and beyond with the girls’ finished looks. Everyone chipped in, and even though it made for a long and busy day, we could not have come away happier. I was thrilled with the results of the photoshoots, and I hope you will agree the pictures captured encapsulate the beauty of the farm, these lovely ladies, and of course, the beautiful horses that call Northstar Equestrian at Greenfield Farms their home. It does not matter where you and your horse spend time together—whether it is at an equestrian center, the family barn, or the fields behind your house, I want to capture you and your horse’s special relationship with the power of photography.
