Emily + Winston
Have you ever heard of a “heart horse”? To horse lovers, finding your heart horse is a lot like finding your soulmate. While many horses can provide deep and personal levels of companionship, a heart horse is the one that feels like they were made just for you. It is the horse that truly understands you, loves you unconditionally, and makes you feel whole. Sometimes they are the first horse we own. Other times, they come later in life at a time we needed them most. Have you met your heart horse? Or are you still patiently waiting for that special moment? Regardless, I am sure you will enjoy meeting Emily and her heart horse, Winston.
Emily is a passionate equestrian who loves training and caring for horses so much that she spends much of her personal and professional life on the frontline of horse care. She works at the Sun Fire Stables in East Troy, Wisconsin, where she also boards Winston. Aside from being a convenient location for our session, the entire area makes for a beautiful backdrop. The stables are set on 50 acres of rolling Wisconsin pastures and wooded trails. The day was just warm enough to be comfortable but nothing like the hot, humid days of early summer, and there was a gentle breeze keeping the bugs at bay. Angela Marie Makeup Artistry was onsite to keep Emily’s hair and makeup looking fresh, and Emily looked beautiful from start to finish. I also enjoyed the company of Emily’s mom, Teri, as well as one of Emily’s friends.
It was such a joyful session to be a part of, mostly due to Winston and Emily’s special relationship. Winston, a Haflinger Gelding, is an absolute sweetheart who positively adores Emily. It was evident that this was a horse and rider that were meant for each other. Because of their tight bond there was an emotional element to the session—a happiness and sentimentality shared by everyone. Each picture I took was motivated by a desire to highlight their unique relationship, and I hope that you’ll agree that the pictures speak volumes about Emily and Winston’s friendship.
Emily’s little silver lab puppy, who didn’t have a name at the time of our session, was an adorable addition to our group that day. I couldn’t help but include him in some of the photos, and my heart melts every time I look at the resulting snapshots. Since our session, he has since been christened Finn-a fitting name indeed for a very good boy!
Do you have a heart horse in your life? If so, what are some of your favorite things about them? Is it their love, loyalty, and trust? Is it the knowing littles glances that you both exchange between one another? While everyone has a different story, I believe that professional photographs are imperative to celebrating the bond between a horse and rider. Our horses are painfully not in our lives forever, but pictures and memories can be. I can’t wait to meet you and your horse and help you get pictures that truly showcase your friendship.
