It Runs in the Family | O'Connor Family Portraits
On a beautiful cool day in Wisconsin I found myself among rolling hills and beautiful horses as I photographed the O’Connor family. Family portraits are always so fun because I get to see the true personalities of each person as they interact with the people they’re closest to. It brings out the biggest smiles and best memories in everyone. Add horses into the mix and I could stay all day!
You know the horse gene runs strong in the family when not just one, but all of them ride and compete. The O’Connors are all reiners and one look at their muscled, keen-eyed mounts makes that clear. Reining is a sport designed to prove a connection between the horse and rider and demonstrate the athletic ability of a ranch-type horse. Ranch horses have to be agile and intelligent and truly trust their rider to handle the daily life of ranch work, and that’s what reining aims to prove about a horse and rider pair.
If you’re in the market for a colt for any of your western riding or ranch needs, look no further than the UWRF Colt Training Program, which Nathan O’Connor is the director of; View their 2023 horses here. I also had the pleasure of meeting the sheep that the daughter of the family shows. Talk about an accomplished family record: Breeding, training, and showing multiple disciplines!
