The Princess and the Pony
For years, books and movies have gone to great lengths to tell us about the story of a young girl and her horse. These stories tug at our heartstrings and give us something genuine and emotional to cheer for, watching as a relationship blossoms into something much deeper.  Perhaps this story line is so popular because this special relationship isn’t limited to works of fiction. As someone who has been more than in love with horses since my earliest memories, I was delighted at the chance to capture the bond between sweet Ali and her two best friends, Val and Ruby. Watching Ali interact with her two lovely companions reminded me of my early days with my own first horse and contributed to a perfect evening fit for royalty—in this case, a princess!
The goal behind this photoshoot was to capture some sweet moments between Ali and her horses, giving her memories and moments that she can cherish as she continues to grow up. Ali is at a very special moment in her life and has recently begun showjumping with her first real show pony, Ruby. In addition to Ruby, the session also featured Val, an experienced old soul with a lot of heart. Both horses were absolute sweethearts and watching young Ali handle them both with grace and experience was impressive and heart-warming. It was clear that Val and Ruby just adore Ali, and the moments that ensued during our session showcased their special bond.
This session took place at North Star Equestrian Center outside of Green Bay, WI, where Ruby and Val are boarded. Think rolling hills, beautiful and well-maintained facilities, and manicured white fences trimming luscious green pastures and you’ve got a good idea what North Star looks like. It made for a crisp and clean background and in the golden light of a setting sun, it was practically glowing. The warm weather in the finishing days of summer contributed to the perfect day.
It was important that Ali felt like a princess during our session, and I really wanted the experience to be a special one that she could remember for years to come. Melissa, Ali’s mom, was along every step of the way and was the source of Ali’s outfits, from her pretty dresses to her embroidered cowgirl boots. Melissa made it into a few photos as well and the dress she wore was provided by me. Angela Marie Makeup Artistry did all the hair and makeup and once again, she absolutely nailed it. Ali’s look was age appropriate, natural, and perfect for our sunny session. As we wrapped up our session, Ali looked at Melissa and asked, “Mom, can we do this every night?” I don’t think Ali will be forgetting the fun she had during our photoshoot, and neither will I. It was such a special privilege to get to be a part of Ali’s personal fairytale!
You don’t need a special occasion to book a personalized session with me. The bond you share with your horse is cause enough for celebration! Life can get so crazy we forget to cherish the small moments in every day, but I believe in capturing memories as they happen. Get in touch with me for your own chance to feel like royalty and to share a special session with the horse in your life.
