On Childhood Ponies | Horse + Rider Session
Dane, WI Horse and Rider Photoshoot
My day in Dane, Wisconsin, with Brooke and her sweet horses Coco and Oakley, was bittersweet in the best way. Horse and rider portrait sessions that are all about remembering the good days as you say goodbye always hold a special place in my heart. Coco was Brooke’s childhood pony and is an adorable pinto pony and Oakley, a stunning buckskin, is her new show mare. Coco was leaving the next day to go back to her original owner so we spent the day reminiscing about the amazing adventures they had together.
Everyone who grew up on a horse’s back knows that the relationship with your childhood pony is one that will always hold the biggest place in your heart. All the thrills and spills you have getting into shenanigans that only a headstrong pony is game for, all the neck hugs and muzzle kisses after a long day, the shape of their ears and that cute spot that makes you smile every time you see it – those are the moments I set out to capture for this sweet woman and her special pony.
Despite the cold, wet, and WINDY weather, my time with Brooke and her two wonderful horses is one I won’t forget any time soon. Even though this session was bittersweet, I know we all went home feeling full of love and good memories. I know Oakley will continue to take good care of Brooke in their future adventures in and out of the show ring, and I hope to see both of them again!
