As the winter months finally begin to melt, quite literally, into the warmth we recognize as spring, I find myself excitedly counting down the days to the Midwest Horse Fair. In just a few short weeks, I’ll be achieving a goal of mine in participating on a personal level in an event that is sure to excite any equestrian lover. By April, spring will be in full swing and (hopefully) the days of dreary cold will be far behind us. With summer just around the corner, the Midwest Horse Fair sets the stage for the year to come, showcasing some of the equestrian world’s finest horses and their talented owners.

Recently, I had the privilege of photographing one of the most gorgeous stallions I have ever had the honor of working with. Meeting Justa Splash Bomb, affectionately known as Raylan, and his talented, experienced owner Kayleigh made for an incredibly fun and educational session. Kayleigh has been busy getting Justa Splash Bomb ready for the Midwest Horse Fair these past couple weeks, and one of the goals of our session was to get some marketable photographs for Kayleigh to use. Justa Splash Bomb is from the Shining C Grulla Horse Ranch in Texas, and the mark he has made in Wisconsin has been nothing short of extraordinary. A registered AQHA/APHA stallion, he is the only stallion with his genetics. He is homozygous for the black, splash and white 20 genes, also carrying one copy of the cream gene, meaning he can also sire buckskins.

The session with Kayleigh and Justa Splash Bomb was so much fun and working alongside them both was an incredible experience. Kayleigh is a talented horsewoman and an incredible boss babe, managing the KRK Quarters and Paints stables in Brillion, WI. I loved talking shop with her amidst the freezing temps—but despite the 7-degree temperatures and blustery breeze, Justa Splash Bomb was engaging, graceful and eager to please. He is an enigmatic force to be around, and in addition to his unique coloring, he is guaranteed to pass on his beautiful movement and eager disposition to his fortunate offspring.

Justa Splash Bomb will be at the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison, WI, which takes place on April 12th, 13th, and 14th of this year.
